2000

Experiments were conducted to study the population dynamics of Aphis gossypii Glover infesting eggplant, Solanum melongena L. var. muktakeshi, during October 1993 to March 1994, October 1994 to March 1995 and October 1995 to March 1996 at Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Twenty plants were used. Maximum number of aphids per plant were recorded during January 1994 (134.67 plus minus 8.57), January 1995 (126.48 plus minus 6.88) and January 1996 (132.65 plus minus 7.25) followed by next highest 123.55 plus minus 9.17 on December 1993, 118.55 plus minus 6.92 on December 1994 and 127.18 plus minus 8.62 on December 1995. Similarly the peak number of nymphs were recorded 68.65 plus minus 5.45 during January 1994, 73.87 plus minus 8.50 during January 1995 and 70.80 plus minus 9.40 during January 1996 followed by 59.20 plus minus 8.14 in December 1993, 68.52 plus minus 7.10 during December 1994 and 63.50 plus minus 8.70 during December 1995. Temperature, dew point, soil temperature, rainfall and photoperiod inversely influenced the population dynamics, of which the effect of photoperiod shows insignificant effect, whereas relative humidity directly influenced the population dynamics of the said aphid.
