Study on the predominant microflora of the milk supplied to the collection program

The bacterial content of ten bulk raw milk samples supplied to the collection scheme of the Dairy Training and Research Institute [College, Laguna, Philippines] was determined. Furthermore, identification of the microbial types of one hundred isolated colonies were determined together with the frequency of their occurrence on the role they played in affecting the milk quality. The schemes of Jackson et.al. (1965) and Mabesa (1973) were used in the identity of the microbial types isolated. The bacterial count of the ten bulk raw milk samples ranged from 1 to 239 x 10 colonies per ml and a mean of 85 x 10 colonies per ml of the ten samples, three samples were used quality, four (4) were average quality and three had extremely high counts. The types of bacteria represented by the one hundred microbial isolates closely resembled those belonging to the genera Streptococcus, Flavobacterium, Achromobacteria, Bacillus, Micrococcus and coliform.
