Profitability of oilseed crops in rainfed areas of the Punjab [Pakistan]

The heavy import burden of edible oil on countryþs foreign exchange exchequer necessitates increasing domestic production of edible oil crops by bringing more area under cultivation and adoption of improved technology. The present study was aimed to measure the cost and returns from oil seed crop production in barani tract of Punjab. The study revealed that among the edible oil seed crops, the production of groundnut in the districts of Rawalpindi & Chakwal is more profitable followed by canola and sunflower, respectively.
