Effect of nitrogen and phosphorous on growth and yield of red chillies

An experiment on the effect of different levels of nitrogen (0, 100, 150, 200, 250), and 300 kg/ha and phosphorous i.e. 0 and 150 kg/ha, on the growth and yield of red chillies (Capsicum annuum) was carried out at Malakandher Horticultural Farm, NWFP Agricultural University, Peshawar during 1996. Different levels of nitrogen and phosphorus significantly affected plant height, number of branches per plant, number of fruits per plant and fruit yield of pepper. Tallest plants (65.2 cm, 64.7 cm), maximum branches per plant (14,13), highest number of fruits per plant (63,59) and fruit yield (9576 kg/ha, 8771 kg/ha) were recorded where N and P each were applied at the rate of 150 kg/ha and N alone was applied at the rate of 200 kg/ha, respectively. Nitrogen and phosphorus each at the rate of (150 kg/ha is recommended for the highest yield of red chillies.
