Evaluation of exotic cultivars of pea in Swat valley [Pakistan]
2001
Qasim, M. (Hamalayan Agricultural Research Station, Kaghan (Pakistan)) | Zubair, M. | Wadan, D.
An experiment was carried out to assess the response of different pea cultivars. All the parameters under observations were found statistically significant except germination percentage. Green Feast and Climax showed maximum (98.7%) germination. Earlier flowering and picking (138 and 162 days) were recorded in cultivar Green Feast while OP-9785 was declared as the late maturing cultivar where the days to 50% flowering and first picking were 152 and 174 days. Maximum pod length (10.7 cm), maximum number of grains/pod (8.5) and highest weighed grains/pod were observed in cultivar OP-9785. Rondo produced tallest plant (216 cm) as compared to the dwarfest plants (87.3 cm) of OP-9785. OP-9783 and VIP produced maximum number of pods/plant and per kg (60 and 295) whereas minimum number of pods/plant and per kg (36 and 164) were recorded in Novana and OP-9785. Cultivar OP-9785 ranked first by producing maximum yield (18.8 ton/ha) as compared to the lowest yield (10 ton/ha) produced by Green Feast. Rondo yielded 15 ton/ha but as it is comparatively early maturing, so cultivars OP-9785 and Rondo are recommended (on the basis of high yield and late/early maturing habits) for the general cultivation in the area.
