Ecological processing of waste diatomine in the beer production

The objective of this study was to detect the time representation of individual working operations and establish efficiency of a specific technology line for beer filtration. Measurements were performed on a filtration line consisting of diatomite candle filter FILTROstar-2000, stabilising and regenerating filter FILTER-O-MAT 150/5000, and candle filter FILTRAP-800 type Securox for final filtration. In addition to time representation of individual working operations we were also interested in finding the production of waste diatomite and proposed its neutralisation with quicklime CaO. In this process we identified the amount of water needed for course of such reaction. Analysing the time representation of individual working operations of beer filtration was found that filtration time took 52.7% and total time filtration line was utilised in one working cycle. Preparation and calibration took 2.27%, sanitation 32.5%, and deposit accumulation 5.5% of total working time of the line. It was calculated that to neutralise 0.1 kg of waste diatomite with quicklime 32.125 g of water is needed. However, diatomite contains 69.3% (i.e. 69 g) of water - an amount sufficient for successful reaction when the ration of diatomite and quicklime is 1:2. During one filtration cycle 1306 kg of diatomite in dry state (95.8% desiccated) was used, which translates in to 4120 kg of was suspension. to neutralise such an amount 8240 kg of quicklime is needed. Neutralisation of waste diatomite with quicklime is suitable also from the point of liquidating micro-organisms present in diatomite, as temperature loosen with the chemical reaction reaches 124.6 degree C
