Effect of acid root environment on nutrient uptake and distribution in young cereal plants

The basic aim of presented work was the hypothesis that low pH-value and aluminium ions substantially influence nutrient uptake and distribution at the juvenile phase of development and hypothesis, that cultivar differences are already distinguishable at juvenile phase of development. There are essential differences in the juvenile growth stage of development among species and wheat cultivars, triticale and barley in nutrient uptake, content and distribution to the roots and shoots between standard and acid conditions. The cereals with higher nutrient uptake and with higher distribution of nutrients to the shoot are more tolerant to acid conditions. For every element individual analysis need to be prepared, according to individual differences of transport. There is also during influence of different abiotic stress relatively large change of root morphology during all vegetation period. This change has strong influence on seed development. The modification of seed traits has the influence on the root system in following generation. The change of root morphology is connected with different level of drought tolerance, change of nutrient uptake and with tolerance to other abiotic stresses. It is possible to follow that the largest decrease of nutrient content at low pH-value conditions at root system prevail. In the shoot of cereals with good tolerance to the low pH-value exist low differences in nutrient content between standard and low pH conditions. There is also possibility of using this phenomenon to select cultivars in the juvenile phase of development with effective nutrient uptake and utilisation at low level of pH-value
