In recent years (from 1993 onwards), the domestic production of Slovakia, being the vital source of the supply of major agricultural products, has been reporting dramatic year-on-year swings in terms of volume. These swings have also impacted the foreign trade development. Rather than by a dramatic deterioration of the agricultural self-sufficiency of Slovakia, year-on-year swings in the production volume have been manifested by dramatic, almost elemental fluctuations in the supply of basic commodities, their use, and available stock of the major agri-food commodities
