During the last years were taken some measures to decrease the health and economy problem of mammary gland inflammation in herds. Somatic cell counts in milk are generally used to indicate the state of health in mammary gland. SCC in milk are affected mainly by the mastitis. However, there is a number of factors which change SCC in milk. The aim of the work was to estimate the effect of some of them. Emanuelson and Peterson (1994) and Batra (1996) found the significant effect of breed on SCC. Hanus and Foltys (1991) found differences between first calf cows and older cows (211 ths/ml or 309 ths/ml) in bulk samples of milk from nucleus herds. Schultz (1987), Barlett et al. (1990) and Bergman (1998) mention the effect of health status in udder and reproductive organs on SCC in milk. Felkl et al. (1995) were engaged in effects of feeding on SCC. They consider the faults at storage of feeds and cutting the young stands to be the basic ones. Sudden changes of feed rations affect metabolism, increase the number of individuals with diarrhoea and SCC increases as well. Batra (1986) noticed the difference between the breeding lines. He admits that there is a possibility to use log.SCC in indirect selection for genetic resistance to mastitis. Emanuelson and Persson (1994) and Brolund (1985) describe similar relations
