Effect of gonadotropin releasing hormone in superovulation program in swamp buffalo

We studied the effect of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) supplement in FSH treated buffaloes (N=28). Three groups of animals were assigned: Group I: GnRH was given at standing heat (N=9) Group II: GnRH was given 8-12 hr after standing heat (N=8) Group III: control group with FSH alone (N=11) The responses (no. of corpora lutea and no. of unovulated follicles), the number of recovered embryos and of transferable embryos among the three groups were compared after slaughter at day 6-7 after mating. The results indicated that the application of GnRH in FSH-treated animals tends to increase the number of ovulations and to reduce the number of unovulated follicles but not different significantly compared with control. No difference of embryo yield is found among three groups. The GnRH supplement at 8-12 hr after standing heat gives the higher transferable embryos than treated at standing heat.
