Khan, M.F.U. (National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad (Pakistan). Animal Sciences Institute)
In Swat valley (Pakistan) pure Rambouille rams were distributed among the farmers. To see the impact of crossbreeding under field conditions, the basic performance data of production traits were collected and analyzed statistically. The mature body weight of sheep were increased significantly (p0.01) from 26.40+-0.75 kg to 32.20+-0.20 kg. The fertility rate between the two groups was not significantly (p0.05) different. The lambs survival rate was higher (93.4%) in Rambouillet-crossbred than in local Khutta sheep (84.4%). The significant (p0.01) difference was observed in wool production which increased from 0.800 kg to 1.8 kg (about 118%), on the same time the wool quality was improved from 24.1 micron to 21.1 micron.
