Anther culture regeneration from some wild Helianthus species

The following two important conclusions can be drawn from this study: Twenty species from the genus Helianthus were tested for androgenic development. Regeneration was obtained only in four of the studied species - Helianthus mollis (M-020), Helianthus mollis (M-034), Helianthus salicifolius (M-045) and Helianthus smithii (M-008). A medium without hormones allowed to develop the obtained embryos into plants. In the species Helianthus smithii (M-008), polyploidization was established unequivocally. At this stage it is difficult to prove the origin of the obtained regenerants.
