Water from the forests and forested areas as a priority product of the forest ecosystems [Serbia, Yugoslavia]
1998
Djorovic, M. (Sumarski fakultet, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
The problem of insufficient water supply for industry and drinking purposes is more and more recognized not only of global but also of local significance. The reason is not only the increase of population and industry, but also rapid pollution of surface and underground waters. For now and more in the future, the only source areas of fresh and clean water are the forest regions and, because of their position and area and also because of their precious hydrological role, they are the most important areas for water supply in Serbia (Yugoslavia). This relatively new quality of forest regions of Serbia (Yugoslavia) is a challenge for forestry and foresters of Serbia (Yugoslavia) who must accept the leading role in water supply in Serbia (Yugoslavia). This new role demands from the foresters to accept and to introduce, apart of classical methods, the new forest management, where the basic goal is to produce substantial quantities of good quality water which becomes a priority product of forests and forested areas.
