Potentiometric stripping analysis of selected heavy metals in roadside camomile flower

The contents of cadmium, lead and copper in camomile flowers (Chamomile flos) grown at different distances from the edge of the road are determined. The samples of camomile flowers were collected at the experimental field of Institute of the Field and Vegetable Crops of Novi Sad, in Backi Petrovac, by the road Novi Sad - Backi Petrovac (Serbia, Yugoslavia). The potentiometric stripping analysis with oxygen as an oxidation agent is applied after the wet digestion of the samples by nitric-perchloric acid mixture. The defined method accuracy is verified by means of recovery assay. Content of lead in camomile flowers grown by the road was about 30-fold greater than in the samples taken at a distance of 25 m. No correlation was observed between the cadmium and copper contents in camomile flowers and road proximity.
