Beta(kwik), advisory system for the growing of sugar beet transferred to internet

Beet growers need specific information to solve problems and possibilities to calculate. At the end of the eighties and the beginning of the nineties the IRS developed, in close co-operation with the Dutch sugar industry and other companies, the crop management system BETA. This project had ambitious goals, which were not reachable at that time. Therefore the interesting parts were taken and transformed into a small, quick and easy to use crop decision program with the name Betakwik. The beet growers did like this MS-DOS PC program. Now we are in the process of just in time information. Therefore we are developing Betakwik applications for Internet. Together with actual information on pests, diseases, growth circumstances and Betakwik via Internet the sugar beet grower will be better informed. An overview of all communication techniques and information transfer in the Dutch sugar beet market will be given.
