Apricot decline is re-emerging in apricot producing regions in the Western part of Switzerland. The symptoms, especially in new cultivars, are leaf roll, leaf chlorosis, insipid fruits, early fruit falling and partial or total tree dieback. Phytoplasma of ESFY (European stone fruit yellows) responsible for apricot chlorotic leaf roll (ACLR) has been identified from a great number of affected trees by means of molecular diagnosis based on PCR and RFLP. In some cases, the detection preceeded the symptoms. Molecular diagnosis was confirmed by biological indexing on peach GF 305. The disease was detected in orchards from various regions. First results of an epidemiological survey in a contaminated orchard suggested the presence of a vector. Psylles have been locked for and captured near this orchard and in other places in Western Switzerland. Molecular analysis of these insects revealed that some of them were ESFY phytoplasma-carrier.
