Quechua. The purpose of this investigation was to assess the average food consumption including the proportion of food services in the Czech Republic in 1997. These results were compared with those obtained in previous years. A questionnaire was distributed to 3,570 persons. In 70 % of households, at least one person used public food services in 1997, while it was 78 % of households in 1996. The distribution of meals consumed in public services per family was as follows: 0.2 breakfasts/person/month, 9.6 lunch meals/person/month, 0.6 dinner/person/month. Public food services were used especially by employees (12.5 meals/person/month), while retired people used them rarely (2.9 meals/person/month). Fifty-six % of consumers never ate fast foods. The proportion of food consumption in public services was estimated to be 10 % of the total food consumption, except in the group of retired people where it was only 5 %.
