The goal of this work was to assess the concentrations of Hg, As, Cd, Pb, Cr, Ni, Cu, and Zn in carp tissues and bottom sediments from 5 ponds in the Czech Republic. Seven specimens of marketable common carp were sampled from every pond for analyses of muscles, liver, kidney, and gonads. Metal concentrations in carp tissues ranged below the Czech hygienic limits, except the Ni (above 0.5 mg/kg) in muscles of 2 specimens. Significant differences in Hg, Zn and As concentrations were found between the ponds. Significantly higher concentrations of Hg were detected in muscle, of Cd and Zn in kidney, and of Cu in liver than in other tissues. Significantly higher concentrations of Cu and Zn were found in eggs than in testes. High concentrations of Pb, Cu, and Zn were registered only in bottom sediments of one of the studied ponds.
