The equilibrium relation in rural economy and the competition for land resources are issues of particular importance for all the EU candidate countries. The present article gives a short overview, starting with the beginning stage of a research project "The Possibilities of Balancing Rural Economy Prior to and After Accession to the European Union, financed by Estonian Scientific Foundation. The main objective of the research is to support the attempts made to achieve the general equilibrium in rural economy. Proceeding from the basic economic regulation, single sub-sectors cannot always be balanced completely. Therefore, to achieve a potentially small deviation (input-output balance) within the sector and between the sectors one has to be significantly objective. On a wider scope, the rural economy as a whole, while internally its equilibrium should be shown by single sectors
