Role of Legumes in Finding Solution for Providing Vegetable Protein for Animal Husbandry

One of the main reasons of low efficiency of animal husbandry in Georgia is the perceptible deficit of protein. The paper examines the problems of both increasing the production of vegetable protein and intensifying cultivation of legumes including grain-legumes. Proceeding from a high share of natural meadowlands in the structure of forage reserve of Georgia, the special attention is given to the increase of the protein contents in grass stands of both the hayfields and the pastures as well as to the increase of digestible protein production from a unit area.
