Variation in the Long-Leggedness Index and Measurements Used for Its Calculation
2002
Gotsiridze, N. Georgia
The long-leggedness index is calculated by using the following formula: The long-leggedness index(withers height - chest depth)/(withers height)*100. Since the variation is low it is often impossible to show the statisticaly reliable difference between comparable groups of animals. To avoid this inconvenience the substitution of the withers height measurement by that of the chest depth in the denominator of the index is suggested.
