Preservation of grains with organic acids
2002
Komka, Gy.
Studies conducted at home and abroad suggest that the microbiological contamination of grains occurs frequently. Preservation with organic acids to reduce contamination is an efficient technology requiring relatively low investment both in the case of air-dried and of 16-20% moisture content crops destined for own consumption. The paper presents various applicator systems for these preservatives using direct atomizer or air-assisted atomizer spray concepts, which are manufactured and/or distributed in Hungary, it discusses the various registered organic acids, their recommended application rates subject to the moisture content and storage time of the crops treated, and the most important characteristics of the preservation technology.
