Alternative growth promoters in broiler nutrition
2002
Tossenberger, J. | Babinszky, L. | Kovacs, R.K.
In the past decades growth promoting antibiotics have played an important role in the nutrition of most animal species, including that of poultry as well. By today, however, more and more antibiotics are being bangished due to the development of resistance and for human health reasons. It is likely that in a couple of years the scope of antibiotics available for the purposes of animal nutrition will be restricted further or may even be completely prohibited. Based on the literature reviewed probiotics, organic acids, various oligosaccharides, industrial enzyme preparations, plant extracts and various heat treatment technologies can be considered at present as potential alternatives of growth promoting antibiotics.
