Effect of zinc and calcium minerals intake on cadmium accumulation in the liver of broiler chicken

English. Cadmium is a heavy metal which can accumulate in animal tissues, may have an effect on the growth of chicken, causes a residual problems and is danger for human consumption. Study on evaluating the effect of mineral zinc (Zn) and calcium (Ca) intake on cadmium (Cd) accumulation in the liver of broilers and their growth was carried out. One hundred and eighty of day old chicks (DOC) were divided into 6 groups, group I was used as control, group II, III, IV, V and VI were given feed containing of 5 ppm Cd, 5 ppm Cd and 10 ppm Zn, 5 ppm Cd and 15 ppm Zn, 5 ppm Cd and 10 ppm Ca, 5 ppm Cd and 15 ppm Ca respectively in their feed. Cd, Zn and Ca were added as CdCl2, ZnCl2 and CaCl2. During the experiment, at week -0, -1, -2, -3 and -4, five chickens from each group were weighed and then they were slaughtered and livers were collected. The liver samples were analyzed for Cd content by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The result indicated that Cd exposed to chickens caused the accumulation of that Cd in their liver. The addition of 15 ppm Zn in feed reduced the accumulation of Cd in liver significantly (P0.05). However the addition of Ca in chicken feed gave greater effect in reducing the Cd accumulation on liver compared to that of Zn supplementation. 10 ppm Ca and 15 ppm Ca in chicken feed caused the accumulation of Cd in liver chicken significantly decreased (P0.05). Ca supplementation also caused of increasing body weight of chickens. The body weight of five weeks old chickens given 15 ppm Ca in their feed as in average of 1,820 grams is higher than that of chickens in control group, which was 1,761 grams. Whereas the body weight of chickens in group IV, which was given with 15 ppm Zn in their diet was in average 1,745 grams. Show more [+] Less [-]Indonesian. Kadmium merupakan logam berat yang dapat berakumulasi pada organ viseral sehinggga dapat mengendap sebagai residu pada produk ternak. Logam tersebut dapat mengganggu pertumbuhan ternak serta berbahaya bagi manusia. Suatu studi untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh penambahan mineral seng (Zn) dan kalsium (Ca) dalam pakan terhadap akumulasi kadmium (Cd) dalam hati ayam pedaging dan pengaruh pertumbuhan pada ayam pedaging telah dilakukan. Sebanyak 180 ekor ayam pedaging umur 1 hari dibagi menjadi 6 kelompok, yaitu kelompok I, kelompok II, III, IV, V dan VI masing-masing diberi pakan dengan penambahan Cd 5 ppm, Cd 5 ppm dan Zn 10 ppm, Cd 5 ppm dan Zn 15 ppm, Cd 5 ppm dan Ca 10 ppm serta Cd 5 ppm dan Ca 15 ppm. Mineral tersebut diberikan dalam bentuk CdCl2, ZnCl2 dan CaCl2. Pada minggu ke-0, -1, -2, -3, dan -4 dilakukan penimbangan bobot ayam dan pemotongan ayam masing-masing 5 ekor dari setiap kelompok untuk diambil organ hati dan dianalisis kandungan Cd-nya secara Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa pemberian Cd dalam pakan menyebabkan terjadinya akumulasi Cd dalam hati. Pemberian Zn pada pakan ternyata dapat mengurangi kadar Cd yang terakumulasi dalam hati secara nyata (P0,05) pada konsentrasi 15 ppm. Pengaruh pemberian Ca dalam pakan ayam pedaging terlihat lebih nyata (P0,05) dalam menurunkan kadar Cd pada organ hati. Pemberian Ca 10 ppm dan 15 ppm dalam pakan menyebabkan penurunan akumulasi Cd dalam hati secara nyata (P0,05). Ca dalam pakan juga menyebabkan pertumbuhan ayam lebih baik. Bobot ayam umur 5 minggu pada kelompok yang pakannya ditambahkan 15 ppm Ca mencapai rata-rata 1.820 gram, lebih tinggi daripada bobot ayam pada kelompok kontrol, yaitu rata-rata 1.761 gram. Sementara itu, bobot ayam pada kelompok IV, yaitu pakan dengan penambahan Zn 15 ppm, rata-rata 1.745 gram. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa mineral Zn dan Ca dapat digunakan untuk mengurangi terjadinya akumulasi Cd dalam hati ayam pedaging
