Gecoat glas lijkt goede mogelijkheden te bieden voor de glastuinbouw, omdat het duidelijk lichtwinst geeft en daarnaast geen andere nadelen heeft. Mogelijk wordt de coating goedkoper wanneer het op grotere schaal geproduceerd wordt. ETFE-folie is een folie met uitstekende lichttransmissie- en duurzaamheidseigenschappen. Het is toe te passen als geweven energiescherm. Dit heeft als voordeel dat overdag geschermd kan worden bij lage buitentemperaturen
