A two-year survey conducted by the BIOTECH Philippine National Collection of Microorganisms (PNCM) revealed that the Philippines has at least 30 microbial culture collections, most of which are situated in Luzon and supported by government universities and institutions. These collections range from highly specialized to general collections holding a wide variety of microorganisms. Four of these collections formed a network of microbial culture collections. The Philippine Network of Microbial Collection's (PNMCC) four charter members are namely: a) BIOTECH PNCM, b) MNH Microbial Culture Collection, c) UP-NSRI Culture Collection and d) IRRI [International Rice Research Institute, Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines] Biofertilizer Germplasm Collection. These collections offer various services, such as: distribution of culture, lyophilization, storage services, identification, microbial analysis, water analysis, detection and enumeration of specific microbial groups, antimicrobial testing, vitamin and amino acid assays, microbial groups, antimicrobial testing, vitamin and amino acid assays, detection of toxins, inocular production, trainings and consultations.
