Repeatability estimates of calving interval lactation length and milk yield in a herd of Bhagnari cattle

The study was conducted to estimate repeatability of calving interval, lactation length and milk yield in Bhagnari cattle at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam during 1998-99. The records of 115 Bhagnari cows maintained at Bhagnari cum Balochi Sheep Farm Usta Muhammad, district. Jaffarabad, (Balochistan) for the period of 20 years i.e. 1976-1995 were analyzed to estimates repeatability of calving interval, lactation length and milk yield. The calving interval and lactation length averaged 482.54 plus- minus 8.60 and 212.70 plus-minus 2.23 days, respectively. The milk yield averaged 663.51 plus-minus 10.47 kg. The repeatability estimates for calving interval and lactation length were 0.256 plus-minus 0.061 and 0.140 plus-minus 0.047, respectively. The estimate of repeatability for milk yield was 0.396 plus- minus 0.051. The estimates of repeatability for calving interval, and lactation length are low whereas for the milk yield is medium.
