Genetic variability in different plant characters and the relationship of grain yield with other yield related traits were studied in eighteen genotypes of mungbean. Highly significant variation was observed in all the characters except for number of grain pod-1. Analysis of correlation coefficient revealed that plant height, number of pods plant-1, and number of grains pod-1 were positively associated with grain yield plant-1 both at phenotypic and genotypic levels. Days taken to flowering and days to maturity had negative correlation with grain yield. Similarly 100-grain weight also showed negative relationship with yield but the association was much weak. These results suggested that plant material had potential for improving grain yield by selecting plants with increased number of pods and grains pod-1.
