Effect of plant extracts in the control of Meloidogyne javanica root-knot nematode on brinjal

Soil amendments with leaf extracts of calotropis, datura and neem significantly reduced root-knot infection caused by Meloidogyne javanica (Treub) Chitwood and improved growth of brinjal plant as compared with unamended control. Neem leaf extract showed better results followed by calotropis and datura. Datura leaf extract at higher concentration showed maximum plant height, number of leaves, fresh and dry weight of shoot and significantly suppressed the root galls and egg masses/plant. The growth of plant was proportional to the concentration of leaf extract while it was negatively proportional in case of root-knot development.
