Incidence of retention of placenta and its effect on subsequent fertility in buffalo
2001
Kalhoro, H.
The study was undertaken to record the incidence of retention of placenta and its effect on subsequent fertility in kundi buffalo. The animals were divided in three groups according to the time taken for expulsion / removal of placenta. Group A = 0-8 hours, Group B = 8-16 hours, Group C =+16 hours. A significant difference (P less than 0.01) was observed between the groups (A, B, and C) for post-partum ovarian activity, uterine involution, number of services per conception, service period and fertility rate. However, no significant difference was found for first post-partum estrus. Incidence of retention of placenta was recorded as 12% (Group-B, 08% and Group-C, 04%). Resumption of post-partum ovarian activity, completion of uterine involution and first post-partum estrus in different groups (A, B and C) of Kundi buffalo was observed on 24.70 plus-minus 5.50, 34.21 plus-minus 5.01 and 37.35 plus- minus 7.46, 37.89 plus-minus 7.57, 50.75 plus-minus 8.08 and 57.61 plus-minus 11.81 and 102.30 plus-minus 42.12, 129.37 plus-minus 30.89 and 139.07 plus- minus 33.70 days respectively. The mean values for number of services per conception in different groups (A, B and C) of Kundi buffalo were recorded 1.34, 1.49 and 1.69 respectively. Service period in the same groups (A, B and C) was 116.43 plus- minus 27.29, 149.09 32.34 and 175 plus-minus 39.71 days respectively. Fertility rate was found to be 84.14, 68.75 and 57.50% respectively in A, B and C groups of Kundi buffalo.
