Effect of various commercial feeds on growth and carcass yield of broiler chicks
2000
Sheikh, M.S.
The experiment was conducted to study the effect of various commercial feeds on growth and carcass yield of broiler chicks. For this purpose 120, 100 and 20 days old chicks were reared on the four commercial rations up to 42 days. The chickens were randomly distributed into four groups of 30 birds each. The body weight of individual birds was recorded at weekly intervals. The daily feed offered, refused feed and weekly feed consumption was recorded. Five birds from each group were taken at random and slaughtered for carcass weight and weight of internal organs (Liver, Heart and Gizzard). Results revealed highly significant difference (P less than 0.01) among weight gain of chicks fed on different commercial rations A, B, C and D were 1756.31, 1948.04, 1829.73 and 1858.76 grams, respectively. Results revealed highly significant differences (P less than 0.01) among total feed consumption of chickens on different commercial rations A, B, C and D were 4072.79, 3981.34, 4165.84 and 4186.70 grams, respectively. The total feed conversion ratio of birds fed on ration A, B, C, and D was 2.31, 2.04, 2.27 and 2.25, respectively. Better feed utilization was observed in chicks fed on ration B as compared to the other rations i.e. A, C and D. Dressed carcass weight of birds fed on rations A, B, C and D was 1115, 1270, 1146 and 117 grams, respectively. Non-significant difference in the internal organs, i.e., heart, liver mid gizzard was observed in all groups. Results indicated that the birds fed on ration B (Manwa feed) is highly significant (P less than 0.01); better in weight gain, feed consumption and per unit weight gain as compared to the birds fed on rations A, C and D. The present result indicates that ration B can be used in the broiler diet.
