The research work reported in this manuscript was conducted at Post-graduate Agricultural Research Station (PARS), University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during the year 2000. The objective of the trial was to evaluate the efficiency of integrated use of organic and inorganic fertilizers on growth, yield and nutrient uptake of rice (Oryza sativa L.) var. Basmati-2000. Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used with four replications in the experiment. Organic material at the rate of 20 t ha-1 (FYM or Poultry manure) was used 10 days before the transplanting of rice seedlings. Mineral fertilizers are used. Nitrogen was applied in two doses, first before transplanting of rice seedlings along with whole P and K and second after 40 days of transplanting. The data collected for growth, yield and yield parameters were, recorded and analyzed for comparison and interpretation. Effects of organic sources alone on the growth of rice plant and its growth parameters were not significant due to their slow supply of nutrients. These growth parameters were improved when supplemented with mineral fertilizers at the rate of 100-75-60 kg NPK ha-1) along with organic materials. Maximum number of tillers, number of productive tillers an 1000- grain weight were obtained with application of mineral fertilizer along with poultry manure at the rate of 20 t ha-1 which was followed by mineral fertilizers plus farm yard manure for the above mentioned yield parameters Maximum paddy yield and straw yield were recorded when, the crop was fertilized Q 50-37.5-30 kg NPK + 20 t ha-1 PM. The highest net income ha-1 of Rs. 21653.20 was obtained from T7, which was fertilized at the rate of 50- 37.5-30 kg NPK + 20 t ha-1 PM. Application of mineral fertilizers along with organic materials found to be the best economical combination of nutrient supply in present study giving 2.05 value for benefit cost ratio. It could be concluded from these studies that organic materials alone could not completely substitute the chemical fertilizers to increase crop production but when applied with chemical fertilizers they enhanced the crop yield by increasing the use efficiency of applied chemical fertilizers. Plot fertilized at the rate of 50-37.5-30 kg NPK + 20 t ha-1 PM resulted in the maximum paddy yield and the highest net profit.
