Studies on genetic variability and heritability in S1 families of maize
2002
Yousuf, M. (National Sugar Crops Research Inst., PARC, Thatta (Pakistan)) | Saleem, M.
The Studies were conducted in the experimental area of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during the year 1998-1999. Seventy-four S1, families obtained from maize population C-17 were grown in a triplicate randomized complete block design (RCBD) to estimate significance of differences among S1, families for plant height, number of kernel rows per ear, number of kernels per row and grain yield per plant. Highly significant differences were observed among S1, families for all the traits. Genotype variances were greater than the environmental variances for all the traits. Heritability estimates were moderate to high for plant traits.
