The present paper deals with an experimental study of sedimentation conducted on 2 models. The first concerns experiments performed on a rectangular settling tank to study the parameters that control the sedimentation phenomena, such as the flow regime, the flow depth, the retention time and the sediment concentration. The second included experiments using columns of sedimentation to study the basic process of sedimentation, like the relation between the sediment concentration and the settling velocity. The impact of the sediment concentration on the critical and final characteristic concentration of the deposited sediment was also studied. The mean flow velocity, the distribution of the concentration in the settling tank, the vertical velocity of sedimentation and level of the deposited sediment laye on the bottom of the settling tank have been monitored throughout the experiment. The performance of the settling tank has been evaluated for varying conditions
