Effect of soil on the mineral content of fodder and cow milk

The effects of soil and its fertility on the mineral content of fodder and on quality, nutritional value and mineral composition of cow milk were studied. The samples of soil, the soil-originated fodder and milk from cows fed the fodder were taken from 45 peasant farms. The soils was assayed for the type, firmness, pH value and macroelement resources. The fodder was assayed for the nutritional value and content of minerals. The milk was assayed for density, solids, fat, lactose, total protein, cassein, albumin, globulin and minerals. The soil and its macroelement resources were found to influence neither the macroelement content of fodder nor its nutritional value. The mineral composition of milk did not reflect the degree to which the mineral needs of a cow were covered. The bulky food used in feeding the cows had a little influence on the milk composition
