Three year investigation results are presented aimed at defining the effect of use intensity of the permanent meadow sward on the changes in biodiversity and balance of mineral nitrogen. The amount of mineral nitrogen released during mineralization of the soil organic matter in mineral-muck soil can reach 40-80 kg N/ha in vegetation season. This nitrogen, not used by plants is scattered in the environment, may be a threat for water quality and also a reason of grassland degradation. N-balance may be used as a test valuating of the nitrogen utilization
