Costs and profitability of chemical protection of cereals in the south-western Poland

The task of the research was to compare outlays on the chemical protection of cereals on family and big-area farms as well as to determine profitability of these in the south-western Poland in years 1991-97. The research has shown that the main burden of material tasks of the chemical protection of cereals lay on the chemical reduction of the level of weeds. The preparation of the sewing corn on private farms was performad incorrectly. The profitability of the chemical protection of cereals in the first years of the analysis was low both on family and big-area farms. A significant improvement in the profitability took place after 1993, brought about by advantageous price relations between the means of production and wheat and barley
