Potato growing in organic farming in the Czech Republic

In this experiment 8 vareieties of potatoes were tested. The lower tuber yields on the bio-farm by 30-40 percent were predominantly the result of insufficient nutrition of potatoes and the earlier vegetation termination due to Late blight (Phytoflora infestans). The results for grower show that yield is influenced by variety, year, location and growing way. This fact was statistic significant on high alpha - level 0.01. As far quality parameters is concerned, nitrate content values as compared with potatoes grown in conventional farming. The C vitamin contents are affected more by variety than by farming methods. A positive effect of applied ecological farming methods on solanin content has not been provided
