Sugars vs. use value of meadow plants

The results of this investigations on the occurrence of sugars in meadow plants allowed arranging grasses and papilionaceous plants from the point of view of availability of this constituent. The low levels of sugars in papilionaceous plants justify their cultivation in mixtures with grasses. Variations in the sugar content observed in grass cultivars indicate that considerable progress has already been reached in grasses in this regard. The same, however, cannot be said about the breeding of papilionaceous plants
