Some aspects of evaluating the quality of fruits and vegetables from ecological and conventional cropping
2003
Czapski, J. (Instytut Warzywnictwa, Skierniewice (Poland). Pracownia Przetworstwa i Oceny Jakosci)
The paper based on the review of literature compares the quality of ecologically versus conventionally grown fruits and vegetables. Large number of variables affecting chemical composition of the plants made it very difficult to draw conclusions on the effect of agricultural practices on these parameters of food quality. There is considerable evidence from controlled experiments, that some organic fertilizers result in lower nitrate concentrations in plants, as compared to conventional fertilization. The results presented in scientific literature show no consistent pattern for quality between organically and conventionally grown products
