Effect of cultivation method on yield and storage ability of sweet pepper

The yielding of sweet pepper Bendigo F1 and Lamuyo F1 grown in a non-heated plastic tunnel, in soil, on rockwool, and straw was compared as well as storage ability and some quality traits of green pepper fruits. Results from a 3 year experiment show that the highest total and marketable yield of pepper was obtained from cultivation on rockwool. Pepper fruits of Lamuyo F1 grown on rockwool and pepper of Bendigo F1 grown in soil were characterized by the highest percentage of the 1st class fruits in total yield. The fresh pepper fruits as well as the stored fruits of both cultivars grown on straw were characterized by a lower content of dry matter and vitamin C as compared with pepper cultivated on rockwool and in soil. The marketable value of stored pepper was more affected by the year of cultivation than by the cultivation method. There were no differences in weight loss of fruits between pepper grown on different growing media
