Efficiency of supplementation of mashes for broiler chicks and turkey with yucca (Yucca schidigera) extract

Addition of preparation containing yucca extract into the mashes of broiler chicks had a beneficial effect on their performance. The final body weight of birds was found to increase by 4 percent. Improvement was also reported for feed conversion ratio and European Production Index. Unexpected, reversed response, consisting in lowering the final body weight by ca. 4 percent and the European Production Index by 7.4 percent was observed in Big 6 toms fed mash supplemented with the yucca extract. No effect of the Yucca schidigera was found on the feed conversion ratio, carcass dressing percentage and nitrogen content in the excreta of turkey toms
