Selection and testing of microorganisms antagonistic toward Cephalosporium gramineum

Different agar media containing conidia of C. gramineum were inoculated in Petri dishes with soil dilutions. After incubation at room temperature growth inhibition zones around colonies of antagonistic microorganisms were observed. Microbial antagonists responsible for these zones were further tested for their ability to suppress sporulation of the pathogen introduced on grass seeds inoculum. Pseudomonas sp. SEA2, one out of 9 tested bacterial strains, was able to reduce significantly sporulation of C. gramineum on grass seed inoculum incubated both on moist filter paper and on soil, as compared to the untreated inoculum
