Effect of different forecrops on root and stem base health status and pathogenic fungi composition in winter wheat

The health status and fungal communities occurring on winter wheat cultivated after 11 different forecrops was studied. The forecrops included crops cultivated in pure stand and two species mixtures. A significant impact of the forecrop on the health status of winter wheat roots was found, however the stem base infection did not vary considerably. The lowest values of root infection index were noted after oats, lupin, lupin with pea, oats with lupin and oats with pea, while the highest after lupin with barley and barley with pea. The pathogens occurring on infected wheat roots were mostly represented by Fusarium spp., especially F. culmorum, Rhizoctonia spp. and Gaeumannomyces graminis were isolated occasionally. Similarly, from the stem base Fusarium spp., especially F. avenaceum and F. culmorum were isolated with the highest frequency
