Soil dehydrogenaze activity and organic C and total N content in soil fertilized with different doses of cattle and pig slurry

The effect of long-term fertilization with different doses of cattle and pig slurry on soil dehydrogenase activity and soil C and N content were studied. Soil was sampled from two depths of Ap horizon lessive soil: 5-15 cm from plots of loamy and sandy soils. Usually higher amounts of total N were found in loamy soil fertilized with cattle slurry in comparison with soil fertilized with pig slurry. Organic C content was similar in soil samples taken from plots treated with both kinds of slurry, but it was higher in samples taken from plots with loamy soil than from plots with sandy soil. Soil dehydrogenase activity was higher in soil samples collected from loamy soil than from sandy soil and soil treated with cattle slurry. The highest dose of both slurries usually decreased the enzyme activity
