Direct plant covering and soil mulching in the spring production of some Chinese cabbage cultivars. Growth and yielding

The effect of covering with non-woven PP and PE-75 film, as well as mulching with PE black film, on growth and yielding of the Chinese cabbage cultivars Optico F1, Akala F1, Sumiko F1 and Parkin F1 grown in spring was investigated. The application of plastic covers considerably improved the growth conditions in the plants' environment leading to an increase in their height, rosette diameter, and the number of leaves and their area buildup. Optico F1 yielded the highest and Parkin F1 the lowest. The best productive effects were achieved owing to the application of not-woven PP while control plants gave the lowest yield
