Comparative ribosomal RNA sequencing yields a broad picture of the evolution of cells. According to this principle, as shown in our article, cellular life falls within three major domains: Bacteria, Archaea and Eukaria. Combined with phenotypic determinations, we are now able to deduce both the conventional taxonomy and the evolutionary history of the organisms we work with.
