Bibliographic software programme EndNote has been developed by the Information Scientific Institute (ISI), ISI ResearchSoft Department, Carlsbad, U.S.A. It is a tool that enables to save, edit, browse and create bibliographic data and bibliographies, and cite references. In the article basic properties of the programme and input document with generic fields for different types of bibliographic material (books, articles, book sections, thesis, conference proceedings, artworks, patents, electronic sources.) are presented. An import of reference records from Derwent Biotechnology database into a personal reference library is demonstrated by using import filters. A presentation of how citation and automatic reference formatting can be done for different periodical publications to meet requirements of their editor boards will relieve researchers and teachers of time-consuming editing of literature sources. Interlibrary lending application with EndNote support, which has been used in Library and Documentation Centre, Department of Food Science and Technology, Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana since 1999, is described in details. The programme together with advantages for final users is evaluated for EndNote 3.0. An updated EndNote 6.0 is already available. It is relatively inexpensive for students and university staff. The new version is not very different from 3.0 in general, but it does offer some additional features.
