Species-rich meadows of the Starohorske vrchy Mts and south-eastern part of the Velka Fatra Mts - a relict of the extensive and semi/intensive agriculture of the Central Western Carpathians

The paper deals with plant associations of the meadows of the central part of the Western Carpathians Mts. They occur on mineral-rich soils on carbonate substratum in the altitude 700-1025 m a.s.l. In the studied territory two new plant associations were described: Lilio bulbiferi-Arrhenatheretum (Arhenatherion ) and Campanulo glomerate-Geranietum sylvatici typicum and brometosum erecti (Polygono/Trisetion). Both associations are of subxerophilous character and special composition. Because these meadows are not distributed in other parts of Slovakia, they need protection. They are endangered because of their abandonment
