Movement of atrazine in soil profile from the standpoint of its possibility of leaching into the groundwater

The investigation of atrazine movement was performed on two soil types from the area of Most pri Bratislave (loam soil) and from the area Stupava (sand soil). From these localities undisturbed soil columns and disturbed soil samples were taken for batch tests and the soil particle - size distribution determinations. Dynamics of atrazine movement was studied on the field experiment with the medium heavy soil in Most pri Bratislave. Sorption properties of atrazine were determined by batch tests. The atrazine movement in soil profile was investigated during column experiment. Obtained results suggest that in the case on medium heavy soil the vertical transport of atrazine is restricted. On the other hand its application in sandy soil means considerable hazard to groundwater sources
